About the Tsakiridis Devices Aeolos
The Aeolos is the best-selling integrated amplifier from Tsakiridis Devices, a small family workshop that has been building tube electronics by hand in Athens, Greece since 1989. It is a push-pull Class AB1 design built around four EL34 output tubes, two per channel, driven by four 12AT7s, and it delivers 35 watts per channel — enough power to drive the great majority of real-world loudspeakers without strain, and more than enough to make an efficient pair sing.
What separates the Aeolos from mass-produced tube amplifiers is what is inside the chassis. Every board is populated with through-hole components and hand-soldered. The output transformers are wound in-house using an eight-layer interleaved construction, and the 300VA power transformer is handmade as well. A dual-mono power supply keeps the two channels independent, signal wiring is shielded throughout, and the power cabling is twisted to keep hum out of the signal path. These are the choices that determine how an amplifier actually sounds, and they are the ones most often skipped at this price.
Four line inputs are switched by high-grade signal relays rather than a long run of wire to a front-panel switch, which keeps the signal path short. Volume is handled by a blue Alps potentiometer. Connections are gold-plated RCA for inputs and the preamp output, with Ultimax binding posts for speakers. The supplied aluminum remote handles volume, input selection, mute, and bias mode. Front-panel meters let you keep an eye on each channel at a glance.
The Aeolos is a serious first tube amplifier and, for many listeners, a last one. It is straightforward to live with, built to be serviced rather than replaced, and backed by a five-year factory parts and labor warranty.
