On to the power supply in the Sansui 881. This board is easily accessible from the top and bottom of the receiver. Nichicon PW series caps will be used to replace the polar and ES series for the bipolars. There are two film caps near the relay which will be replaced with Panasonic ESQ film.

The transistors will be replaced if necessary with Fairchild substitutes as well as the diodes. The works gets a little tricky behind the card slot where four caps have wires attached to the trace as well. Also, the 1000uf 50v cap has two ground wires attached to the trace.

Note : There was an error in my schematic for C07. The service manual lists it as a 4.7uf 16v, however it is 47uf 16v. Later service manual list it correctly.

On the fence about the two large 10000uf 50v supply filter caps. I have two Nichicon KW caps that are correct value but are half the diameter so will need modification to fit. Will continue to try to find a 40mm equivalent.

Update : Nichicon KW fit well in factory clamps with my custom adapters for filter caps.

To adjust bias current on this receiver you remove fuse 07 and 08 on the power supply board and tie in your DMM measuring mA across the empty fuse slot. Adjust the appropriate pot on the amp board to 30mA +/-1mA. Offset is measured off speaker terminals and adjusted to 0 VDC +/-10mV
